Her story:
After graduation in December, Jen went home to spend the holidays with her family. On Christmas morning, Jennifer collapsed. Her father and brother gave her CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation until the EMT's took over and revived her. However, Jen succumbed again on the way to the hospital, and needed to be resuscitated a second time. She suffered from several pulmonary embolisms which left her without oxygen for an extended period of time. This caused her brain to begin the process of shutting down. She now has to recover from what is called an Anoxic Brain Injury.
Jen spent several weeks recovering in the hospital trying to get her body to stabilize. She needed to be hooked up to a machine that would help her breathe. Once the doctors felt she was ready to be moved to a rehabilitation center, she was able to do so. She now gets therapy every day of the week to keep her muscles relaxed and to relearn how to move and speak.
In order to recover fully, Jen needs this full time care and therapy for a much longer time than insurance will pay for. In order to get the full care she has now, her parents had to regain custody of their adult daughter. This proved to be very costly. Along with this struggle, her parents have spend every single day by her side. She is currently in a special rehabilitation center that specializes in brain injuries where she will spend several months recovering. Unfortunately, insurance will only cover so much!
Eventually, Jen will need special care beyond this rehabilitation center on her journey toward recovery. We are looking to help her family by raising money to allow them to provide Jen with the full time care she needs. We would like Jen to be given the best care she can receive and to have all of the tools necessary to continue thriving and making progress.
